Municipalities WISPs Businesses
We knew what the city wanted and believed that WiMAX was the answer. We needed a company that could turn the concept into reality. I met IBC at a tradeshow and instantly recognized that they had the credentials to get our network up and running. I look forward to keeping IBC as a primary partner as this project expands.

Wrightsville Beach goes wireless

Parts of Wrightsville Beach now have access to the Internet through a wireless broadband network being installed by Internet Broadband Consulting (IBC) and the town will have full coverage by next May, in time for the summer tourist season.
IBC president Jim Hollis said that access to the network can be purchased daily, weekly or monthly, making the network an ideal solution both for full-time residents and for visitors who only need the service for a limited time.
For now, the access is free, but the second phase of the project, scheduled to begin Nov. 1, is to set up the accounting system so that users can pay for the service. When customers open their laptops and search for wireless networks, they will be able to log in through the company’s home page, Hollis said.
Surfmasters, which also offers broadband DSL in Wrightsville Beach, contracted with IBC to design and install the system.
“Surfmasters has an agreement with the Public Works department to provide access for some of the Public Works employees and Park Rite,” Hollis said.
There are a limited number of municipalities nationwide with similar, community-wide wireless networks, but the trend is growing, Hollis said. Hollis added that Surfmasters’ 24/7 call center is an added benefit of the service, providing immediate response for any technical needs a user might have.
The first few access points have been up and running for several weeks, he said, and there have been no problems so far.
